Good morning all,
First. I would like to congratulate Frank Taylor (Hatfield) in being
selected by DGE Sandy to be our District (RI) Water Resource Coordinator.
Frank is currently beavering away getting the next big Play Pump project
ready for submission to TRF in July. Frank will be attending the Rotary
Action Group for Water & Sanitation (WASRAG) summit in Birmingham later this
month on behalf of the International Committee. He has also invited
Rotarians to the Hatfield Club's meeting on 17th June to learn a bit more
about alternative water mechanisms from the President of the Diss RC.
Second. Can I draw your attention to Stevenage Grange's 'make blindness
history' article in this edition of Rotary Today. As will be seen from a
sister article on D1260's web site [link]
http://www.rotary1260.org.uk/component/option,com_mycontent/task,view/id,2530/Itemid,109/
the ROI has developed significantly. In terms of gaining international
traction and support it has a long way to go but hopefully their attendance
at the RI Convention will make an impact. Please consider 'making blindness
history' one of your Club's causes for support as you approach the new
Rotary year - see www.roisight.org for further information. A copy of their
DVD and information leaflet will be circulated with the Club Folder at the
next District Council meeting.
Third. Those who were unable to attend the District Assembly may wish to
know that the International Committee is keen to support the publication of
a new edition of the Dictionary for life designed specifically for
developing countries. On the basis that it will enjoy District Foundation
support, it is hoped that Clubs will each consider pledging at least £100 to
purchase 50 copies of this excellent colourful literacy aid. If funds remain
we will develop a matching grant and arrange distribution through a
competent host club to a developing country on a regional basis. For further
information or to pledge your Club's support, please contact John Moss
(Wolverton & Stony Stratford).
Finally. Rotary Day 23rd February coupled with 'Thanks for Life'. Please let
your International link Rotarian (see list attached) or Assistant Governor
know of your plans to celebrate the week around Rotary Day and how you
intend to raise funds for Polio plus through your schools and the local
community. Some Clubs are bringing together Members, and friends who work in
schools or are school Governors to form a sub-committee to develop
appopriate, interesting and relevant programmes on a kids for kids support
basis. There is a wealth of publicity material available in support of Polio
plus and some excellent video footage.
With best wishes,
Stephen
