Dear all,

A matching grant application was submitted to TRF yesterday evening.

Thanks to the support of 23 Clubs in D1260 and a wonderful DDF contribution
from D1260 Foundation Committtee of $4,000+ we were able to put together the
application to purchase 3,790 dictionaries for shipment next year to the RC
of Ballito, Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. Dictionaries will be distributed to
more than 50 rural schools. With TRF and DDF support the net cost per
dictionary to Clubs runs out to around 82p, after adding in customs and
other charges.

The RC of Ballito and its surrounding schools are well known to John Moss,
(Wolverton & Stony Stratford). John will be visiting the location in
October 2009 and 2010 to monitor progress ... at his own
expense. We are very confident that, subject to getting TRF support this
project will be successfully delivered. If TRF funds run out before our
application is approved by the Trustees the cash pledged will be used to buy
fewer dictionaries.

A full list of Club donations is publicly viewable on the Matching Grants
database with a summary - have a look at
http://www.matchinggrants.org/grant1601.html If Clubs wish to have a full
copy of the application (22 pages) please let me know.

If your Club was considering supporting this literacy project but have not
yet advised us, that's not a problem. We can take your pledges and cash
through to December and add your contribution to the D4L order which is due
to be placed on or before 31st of December.

In addition to thanking Bernard Pritchard and the Foundation Committee for
their support, I would like to place on record my thanks to John Moss and
Frank Taylor (Hatfield) for helping to pull this together in record time.

More particularly can I thank every Club who has supported, or is
considering supporting this low cost but effective literacy project for
developing countries,
With best wishes

 Stephen
