Hi John

Thank you for your information regarding the Fires in Australia and message
from your friends.

I attach a copy of a message received from one of my fellow DG's that may be
of interest if clubs wish to make a donation via the RIBI Donations Trust.

Could you please pass out the information and co-ordinate any action please
as I will not be around from Monday 16th for 7 / 10 days?

Many thanks

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

Further to a message from Karen Jones (RIBI) on 10th February, I have been
copied into a number of Emails corresponding with relatives, friends and
Rotarians in southern Australia and have been in touch with the DG D9800 Jim
Studebaker. The messages below and the attachment explain the Rotary
involvement in the recovery from the bushfires in D9800.

In the absence of any other initiative and not wishing to tread on anyone's
toes, I have spoken with Howard Griffiths (RIBI Treasurer), Judy Smith (RIBI
Finance Manager) and with RIBI President Ian Thomson, all of whom have
approved the use of the RIBI Donations Trust as the receipt point to
centralise donations from individuals, Clubs or Districts who wish to
VOLUNTEER funds to assist D9800 and the other districts affected by the
fires.

Individual donations can be Gift Aided as per normal gift aid rules (UK
Resident, Tax Payer etc); Gift Aid declarations should accompany such
donations. A copy of the Gift Aid Form is attached and I'm arranging for
something to go on the RIBI Website as well.

Centralising funds in this manner will reduced administration and handling
costs.

So as not to prolong the transfer of funds, I suggest that all donations,
from whatever source be forwarded to RIBI, payable to "RIBI DONATIONS TRUST"
for the attention of the The Accounts Dept (ABR) (Australia Bushfire
Recovery) by 20th March 2009 so that a transfer can be made before the end
of March.

How matters are handled at District level is left to you, but the target
date is 20th March at RIBI.

Yours in Rotary,

Tony Parrini

>From DG D9800

Along with all Rotarians throughout Australia, I am deeply saddened by the
extreme loss of life and property that has occurred in the bushfires over
the last week. As I am sure you will realise, I have been inundated with
enquires about what our Rotary District is doing to help. I have taken
advice from a senior emergency management professional in our District and
have implemented our District Emergency Recovery Plan.

We have established a Trust Fund with all the necessary approvals and
encourage any fundraising efforts to be directed to this fund.

Recognising that there are many Government and Non-Government Organisations
already working in the affected areas, we intend to use these funds on
medium to long-term assistance with a primary emphasis on community
rebuilding.

Donations of goods are specifically not sought through Rotary due to
difficulties with their distribution. We simply don't have the resources to
warehouse and distribute goods.

Kind regards
Jim Studebaker
District Governor D9800

Dear DG Tony

It is wonderful to hear from you and to know that you and your fellow
Rotarians in D1190 England are thinking of us and offering to help.

It is just awful that so many lives and been lost and so many communities
destroyed by the horrible bushfires which began last Saturday with at least
three large fires continuing to burn.

I have attached the message I sent out last Monday for your information.

Donations may be directed to the account which has been established with the
ANZ Bank:

Account Title: "Rotary International D9800 Bushfire Recovery Fund"

BSB: 013 345

Account # 2521 12703

The funds raised will be used by Rotarians and Rotary Clubs throughout
Victoria to help rebuild communities and families so harshly treated by the
worst bushfires our country has experienced.

Please pass along the gratitude of all Rotarians in the five Rotary
Districts of Victoria for your help.

Kind regards

Jim
